Theta Mathematics

The original edition of Theta Mathematics has been completely revised - with the topics being reorganised into the curriculum strands and with many more application-type problems, encouraging students to provide explanations and also see the many ways in which mathematics can be used to model real-life situations.  Theta Mathematics still retains a solid core of skill-based work, providing a smooth link from a good 'School Certificate' standard to a level where students will be fully prepared for both the Mathematics with Calculus and Mathematics with Statistics courses in Year 13.

Theta Mathematics has been written to incorporate the use of technology in the Mathematics classroom.  Throughout the book, spreadsheet work is integrated with various topics (particularly sequences).  A special innovation is the section on data sets for time series, where files can be downloaded for student use from this website.  The focus on technology continues in investigations which encourage students to do their own research on the Internet.

New sections include:

  • networks
  • time series
  • sampling
  • sine rule and cosine rule
  • trigonometry (angles of depression and elevation)
  • polar co-ordinates
